What's the best way to price and sell a car when you don't want to do the repairs, but rather just sell as is?
September 27, 2008 - Right now I'm thinking to just get a total estimate of the repairs and subtract that from the price it would be if the repairs were not needed. Any other suggestions you may have would be appreciated.
You can do that but you need to subtract an additional 20% for making the seller go thru the hassle of spending his money and taking his time to fix something that you didn't. A car that needs repair is a red flag. It sends a signal to the potential buyer that this car was not taken care of. If the owner didn't fix these things, what else didn't he do. It shows a lack of ownership pride and responsibility to ignore needed repairs. Most smart car buyers will avoid a car in need of repair unless it is an incredibly low price. Either sell it really cheap or fix it and sell it for top dollar.
- depends on what's wrong with it. if it's not from an accident, you're pretty likely gonna still get a good price on it. if it's old, prepare to call it a "project car"!!!! or just do the repairs yourself.
- price it a couple of hundred dollars under book tell the person EVERYTHING that is wrong with the car and let them make a counter offer
