Hello! I had an accident with my previous car and consequently have to buy a "new" one. With a budget limit of USD 3700, and wanting a p enger car 1998 or newer, what is the best make and model of used car to purchase?

Honestly, anything american will always be cheaper. short and long run, maintenance, price, etc. If it has to be foriegn, choose toyota corrolla. USD 3700 could buy a ford taurus, crown victoria, grand marquis
USD 3700 is not that much. I'd advise to add a couple more thousands and look for Corolla or Civic; with this price for gas it is the good choice. I do not know if you will be able to find 1998 or newer car for that price, but either of these two cars even if older than 1998 will last provided it was maintained well
For that budget hard to get any car in the price range. Stay away from the cheaper Fords and Chevy's in that price range. Hard to get much in the range. will not be able to find or afford a Subaru like the guy above mentioned or a Subaru Impreza they are hard to find cheap and usually a lot more than that. You might be able to find a decent small Toyota or Honda. Maybe a little civic or might be able and get lucky to find a Honda accord. Try not to buy from a dealership since they add a lot of extra fees in. Use the cash you have and buy from a personal owner instead. Check the Internet and news paper. can not go wrong with any small Honda or Toyota or even Nissan for that matter. Maybe a civic, accord, sentra, corolla. just check online see which one you like best and go test drive it to see if it fits what you want out of a car. Well good luck
A 1998 or 1999 Subaru Legacy would be a great choice. The 2000 came in a new body style and are a little more expensive. The Legacy 2. 5gt with a 165hp motor can be found for under 4000 with not too much mileage. They're fun to drive, easy and cheap to maintain as well as looking really good with the factory wing. Because all wheel drive is standard they are incredibly safe cars that handle well in almost any weather condition. The flat four motors are economical, my 1998 2. 2 sohc gets 28 mpg highway and it still provides robust torque for traffic conflicts or humiliating a modded civic at a stoplight. If you need more room go with a wagon, if you want something sportier go with an Impreza, it shares the same drivetrain and engines but comes in a coupe as well.
