How do you feel about the bailout? I feel that w/o it capitalism will prevail?

In the long run, capitalism will prevail. The problem is how long will the "long run" be? To work well, capitalism and the government must work in harmony and play by the rules. One of those rules is the same for government as it is for business -- make sure your revenues are enough to cover your expenses. ... Unfortunately Conservatives see capitalism as a one-way street. Conservatives who have dominated government politics for the past quarter century want to no rules only the ones they make. Their first rule is lower taxes, especially for the rich. They don't believe in progressive taxation. That is, the more you earn the higher your share of income should be. ... In many ways that same principle is used in business. For example, automobile companies can take the same chassis and engines they us for trucks and slip on a frame, add a some seats and call it an SUV for people who can afford to pay more. In other words our capitalist system of manufacturing and marketing is geared to the principles of producing products for all levels of the market. I've been in that marketing and pricing situation and I can tell the costs to make the highest price product are not that much more than the lowest price. What makes the highest price product cost the consumer more is the increased margin of profits that is in the price. That's the capitalist way. Not the Conservative way. In some respects the Conservative way is to have several manufactures (competition) build only one type of car and let the people decide which one they can or can not afford to buy it.
I sort of like the rrmark made by Robert Reich made of Kudlow& Company (CNBC) last evening. He explained it as as socialist capitalism. Capitalist when things go well and socialist when they need to be corrected. ... ... My opinion: Neither a pure socialist nor a pure capitalist society will be better in all situations.
We are supposed to have all KINDS of safeties in place in our economy just FOR situations like this. Yet the Administration tells us the ONLY solution is a huge infusion of taxpayer money into the private sector. Why?? This bailout plan has been prepared for months as a contingency plan per Deputy Press Secretary Fritte. Why is it presented to Congress 4 days before recess? When Congress is sooo anxious to get back to their home states to campaign for the election? One wonders. There must be alternatives. Of course, one of those alternatives is to do NOTHING and let the market weed out the sick players. I say, "Why not?" Otherwise, this is just like Hans with his finger in the dyke. It'll be happenin' again.
